Word chart generator

Bead by reading, not by counting squares. Upload a photo and get the pattern with written instructions for every row, like “3 A, 2 B”.

  • Peyote, loom and brick stitch
  • A letter for every color, color counts for every row
  • Chart, materials list and word chart in one PDF

JPG, PNG or WebP. The picture is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Example: a small loom heart

The chart on the left, the same pattern’s word chart on the right. On a loom each row is one pass of the weft thread: string the row’s beads left to right, in word chart order.

What is a word chart?

A word chart spells out every row of a bead pattern: “Row 4: 2 A, 5 B, 1 C”. Instead of counting beads on the graph you read a line, which cuts mistakes on long peyote bracelets and patterns with frequent color changes.

How it works

  1. Upload a photo

Pick the stitch, the width and the number of colors. Your browser turns the photo into a pattern.

  2. Get letters and counts

The most used color becomes A, then B, C… Each row is written out by grouping beads of the same color in a row.

  3. Download or edit

Download the chart, materials list and word chart as a PDF, or open the pattern in the editor to change it.

Word chart FAQ

Why does the peyote word chart go by “steps”?

In peyote the beads sit offset by half a bead, and each pass of the needle adds beads to only half of a row. The word chart follows the stitching order of follow mode in the editor; each step is one pass.

How are the letters assigned?

The most used color is A, the next B, and so on. The color key lists each letter’s bead code, name and count.

Can I get a word chart for a pattern I drew myself?

Yes. Draw or open the pattern in the BeadDot editor; the PDF from its menu includes the word chart. It is free and needs no sign-up.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture is read and turned into a pattern in your browser; it is never sent to a server.

Follow your pattern row by row

Follow mode in the editor marks the word chart’s order on screen, so you never lose your place.
