Turn a photo into a cross stitch pattern

Choose a photo, set the width and number of colors and see your DMC chart instantly. Then edit it in the studio and download a symbol PDF.

From a photo to a DMC chart

Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Every square becomes a full cross in the closest DMC color; fewer colors make a chart that is easier to stitch.

JPG, PNG or WebP. Your photo stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is the photo to cross stitch converter free?

Yes. Converting, editing, the symbol PDF and stitch tracking are free. Your photo is processed in your browser and is not sent to a server.

How many colors should I use?

Portraits and landscapes keep their detail with 15–30 colors; simple drawings and logos need 4–10. Every extra color means another skein and more thread changes.

How big will the pattern be?

Width and height are counted in stitches. 100 stitches on 14 count Aida is about 7.1 inches (18 cm); the tool shows the finished size for the fabric you choose.

Can I edit the chart afterwards?

Yes. "Open in the studio" opens the chart as an editable pattern where you can change colors, fix single stitches and add backstitch.
